The everlasting smile of a woman’s soul seems to be a common theme for the photographers who set out to capture an image of an independent woman. This photo is by Saurabh Goenka.

Photo description – “Nobody can take away your freedom to smile. Women symbolize strength in the face of every adversity. This is a picture of my housemaid, who is proud to do the work she does. It is strange, that people don’t realize that happiness is nothing but a choice of reaction to any event. Some choose to be happy. Look into her eyes and you shall notice the ignorance of the corrupt ways of this world. Strength, resilience and love is what is see.”

The many faces of hard work, struggle, the many pursuits through hot and cold weather, a fragile body in a crowded train or a worried look on a silent journey – are all faces of woman’s freedom and independence, captured aptly by Tusha Bhatia in this photograph taken in a ladies compartment of a Mumbai local train.

In the photo – The women who witnessed the miseries inflicted on their Tibetan men, find their way out in Dickey Larso Tibetan Settlement at Kushinagra District of Bangalore 5 hours away from Bangalore.

We wondered if the door can ever be opened

Sharing the delight of togetherness is Archna Misra from UP, Kasturi Bhagat from Orissa, Suchitra Harankal from Shillong and Sourav Samal from Orissa. Now Masters in Law from India’s best college, Suchitra (suchi) comes from a husband dominated family. Today she feels empowered by the fact that she successfully shared her classroom and notes with students half her age and is known amongst her friends as “one of the most elegant and intelligent girl around.”
