RT @befjam: Teenagers have a warped view on domestic violence

This NYT article talks about how the Rihanna and Chris Brown case has actually forced dating violence conversation out into the open. Quote: "On blogs and social networking sites, teenagers are having an e-shouting match about this highly publicized episode — perhaps the first time their generation has been compelled to think aloud about dating violence."

The story starts with a conversation in a high school hallway between two ninth graders: “She probably made him mad for him to react like that,” the other ninth grader said. “You know, like, bring it on?”

This tendency to blame the woman for "having brought upon his hand on her" is a common excuse and a defense reason to shift the blame off the abuser. It’s sad to see the universal acceptance of this blame shift.
