International Women’s Day Events in India

1) Fight-Back, an innovative orgnisation started by the male employees of Cell 18 led by Zubin Driver (though the campaign is a personal initiative) after the New Year’s Eve Molestation Case outside JW Mariott Hotel in Mumbai last year, is all set to take another innovative turn on International Women’s Day. This year, they are publically condeming Female Foeticide and they are asking you to help condemn it too. All you have to do is Call your family doctor today…and get him/her to publicly condemn Female Foeticide.

“One doctor per person…get us his/her name ASAP”

This is what they said in their Facebook invite:

They’re missing since pre-independence. They vanish every year from the census. We murder two million a year…in urban and rural India.

Female Foeticide is one of India’s most shameful secrets. It is an activity supported by doctors, encouraged by rich folks and rampant all over the place. No one gets convicted, no one gets jail time….dead babies can’t fight cases in court.

March 8th is International women’s day. Let’s take a stand on behalf of India’s missing women.

Let’s get doctors to take a stand AGAINST this.

Let’s take a personal pledge to squash this horrible crime in our families, peer groups and circles of influence.

Agenda:

  • let’s shake up the Indian Medical fraternity? FIGHT-BACK members will call prominent doctors and ask them to take a public pledge NOT to encourage female foeticide.
  • Let’s launch a series of public awareness campaigns + activities on 8th March and keep it going right through the year?

Ideas welcome!

PS: Those who want to join the group calling doctors, please write in! Imagine if you could just call 10 doctors?

keep the faith!
