People in India are unnecessarily worried about the culture factor. These laws are invented by NCW (National Commission for Wives) to protect women from exploitation. Now India has a set of laws meant only for women (non-constitutional) commonly known as “Dowry Laws” which are heavily mis-used by women with ulterior motives. In last two years the number of false cases based on one amoung those Dowry Laws, 498A, are 1,39,058 which created approx 5,56,232 criminals, considering an average of 4 accused in each case . Half of this include mother and sisters of husband. The National commission for women chairperson Girja vyas says this is ok, women need fair settlement. WCD minister Renuka Choudary says all laws are getting mis-used so are Dowry Laws. Apparently, they very well know that if this misuse continues, the concept of family and marriage will disappear from India in less than a decade from now. Obviously people will look for alternatives which helps to protect age old parents and sisters and there comes the potential of live-in relationships. In live-in relationships, if there arise any discripancies within the couple they can simply walk out of the relationship without any legal hassles. NCW is trying to protect those abla naris which will get deserted in the future by making laws such that they are entitled to claim maintenance, share in guy’s properties and if not his parental properties. Legalising means all those existing Dowry laws will be applicable for live-in husband. Arent NCW futuristic?
